Redundant TopView Engines – Failover configurations
TopView supports a redundant architecture that allows for a second TopView machine to take over monitoring if issues arise on the primary TopView machine.
If the primary TopView machine is shut down, TopView Engines are stopped, or TopView can no longer connect to the data server, the secondary TopView machine can detect these situations and launch redundant TopView Engines in response.
The secondary TopView machine can directly monitor the health of the primary machine’s TopView Engines through
- Watchdog tags on the primary machine (Client/Server Watchdog TCP available in v6.37 and later)
- Windows Performance counters

TopView also supports indirect monitoring through heartbeat points on your monitored data source.
