Computers running EXELE Software may be accessed using various types of remote control software. This software typically displays the screen of the host computer to the remote user, allowing remote keyboard and mouse control. Some of these remote applications will work without any errors since they only mirror the display, keyboard and mouse activity. Others, such as Microsoft Remote Desktop connecting to a Server OS, may present a new session to the Remote Desktop user and introduce behavior that is not seen when connecting to the host machine console.
This information is for users who are installing an Exele product on a Windows Server Machine, but doing so through a Remote Desktop connection to the Server.
For TopView, perform the steps below to disable sound redirection
If possible, connect to the console session before starting the installation (see below)
Warning: You should not install the application by running the installation program executable directly. Instead, you should Use one of the following installation methods:
Installation wizard: In Windows 2000/2003, you should launch the installation from Add/Remove Programs. For Windows 2008 and later, you can run "Install Application on Remote Desktop" wizard from Control Panel.
Command line (Server 2008): assuming the
installation program is setup.exe
C:\Users\Administrator>change user /install
User session is ready to install applications.
C:\Users\Administrator>setup.exe
C:\Users\Administrator>change user /execute
User session is ready to execute applications.
This information is for users who are accessing an Exele software product application through Microsoft Remote Desktop.
Exele products that use sound (TopView audible alarms
and voice callout notification) may not work properly through Remote Desktop.
This includes installation of sound devices (e.g. installation of a callout device) and product
testing and execution.
You should disable audio redirection on both the client and server
Remote Desktop Client
If you use Microsoft Remote Desktop to remotely connect to the computers
running our products, the default settings for the connection will redirect
sound to the Remote Desktop Client. This setting can cause multiple problems
in TopView, most of them related to TAPI and the use of a TAPI callout
device.
Typical symptoms are that TopView runs fine, but when a Remote Desktop user
runs a TopView application, various sounds errors and/or TAPI errors are
reported.
You should configure the Remote Desktop connection's Remote Audio Playback
to "Play on remote computer". When you launch Remote Desktop, click
[Options...], Local Resources, Remote Computer Sound, Play on remote
computer
Remote Desktop Server
If the option exists, you should disable audio redirection on the Server.
For example, on Windows 2008:
Administrative tools... Remote Desktop Services, Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration
Right-click the connection name and choose "Properties"
On the Client Settings screen, disable "Audio and video playback" and "Audio recording"
Click OK and reboot
If you are using Microsoft Remote Desktop to connect
to a Windows Server-OS computer running an EXELE product, you may not see the
same screen as the Server computer console. You can force your Remote Desktop
session to display the same screen as the Server by adding a "/console" to the
launch string for Remote Desktop:
%SystemRoot%\System32\mstsc.exe /admin
OR
%SystemRoot%\System32\mstsc.exe /console
Run %SystemRoot%\System32\mstsc.exe /?
to see which switch is required for your version of Remote Desktop
