TopView assists with Power Load Balancing in the UK

Balancing the supply and demand of electricity is a dynamic challenge and a mandatory requirement for electricity providers on the grid. In the UK, Endeco Technologies provides CashBack from National Grid and energy savings from energy bill optimization. EXELE TopView alarm monitoring and notification software are used as a user-facing tool in the Network Operations Centre for recognizing and acknowledging when faults and events in the system are detected.

Alarm mobility increases hydropower plant reliability

In 2011 the Edmundston Energy Department brought in Roy Consultants to modernize their control systems in order to improve their operations and provide better service to their customers. An older DOS Based system which was installed in the ’80s was replaced with a new Citect SCADA system and TopView Alarm Notification system. The new system monitors all aspects of the municipal electric utility including the 3 hydropower generation plants, 4 substations, and the distribution system.

Brookfield Renewable Energy is a leading global developer and producer of clean and environmentally-preferred energy from primarily waterpower. Brookfield’s Canadian Operations include Sault Hydro Operations on the Montreal River and the St. Mary’s River in northwest Ontario, encompassing 11 generating units at five separate generating stations producing 203 MW and embracing a watershed of 2900 km².

Power Plant uses Text Messaging for alarms

For a long time, Xcel Energy had been looking for a system that would allow them to monitor all of the process variables and potential alarm conditions and enable them to notify the appropriate people quickly and easily.

“We have set up the TopView system to send text messages for all sorts of events,” said McMullan. “We have standard messages which can have variables embedded in them so that the recipient not only knows the condition but can see the details or severity behind that event.”
