Tag Group/Category alarm and notification

Within some processes, a single "event" may trigger one or more alarms. In TopView, the user may receive a notification for each alarm when the desire is to receive a single notification for the event.  The new TopView Tag Group alarm count allows the user to create alarms and notification for a group of alarm conditions.

TopView Tag Groups allow the user to categorize the monitored points and alarms by area, equipment, or function. Currently, the Tag Groups simplify navigation of value and alarm displays, as well as provide a filter for Alarm Reports, Snapshot Reports, and Remote Viewer connections.

The new TopView operation, Tag Group alarm count, displays the total number of active alarms within a Tag Group. The operation result can be used to create alarms and notification for a group of points where the desire is to know, for example, if there are "no alarms" or "one or more alarms" in the group.

HTML Snapshot Reports: "Optimize for mobile" browsers

TopView HTML Snapshot Report
iPod browser

TopView can create multiple, customized reports of current tag values and alarms ("snapshots") as HTML files that can be viewed in a web browser.

Each HTML Snapshot Report can be emailed or published to a web server using FTP. Users can also request current HTML Snapshot Reports via email.

Each HTML Snapshot Report has two new options:

  • If "Optimize for mobile" is enabled, the output HTML file will contain special formatting to make the output easier to view on mobile web browsers. This includes instructions for initial zoom, max width, and smaller font sizes.

  • If "Narrow table format" is selected, each output tag/alarm in the report will consume multiple rows and the table will contain two columns of data. The default "wide table" format uses one row per tag/alarm but contains multiple columns.

Secure Incoming Email (SSL) for alarm acknowledge and information request

TopView supports incoming email for alarm acknowledge and information request through POP3 mail servers.

Previously, TopView did not support POP3 Servers that required a secure connection (SSL).

POP3 SSL is now supported with implicit or explicit security. SMTP secure connections (outgoing email) are also supported since v6.6.1.

OPC Tag Browsing update

Despite the OPC specifications, certain OPC Servers do not filly follow the specification for Tag Browsing.

The new default OPC Tag Browser in TopView will work with more OPC Servers that are not compliant with OPC DA2 browsing specifications.

The user can still use the older OPC-DA1 Tag Browser by checking "Use alternate OPC Tag Search" on the Tags and Limits screen of the Configurator.

Additional changes and new features include:

  • Configurator: Start/Stop all TopView Services

  • User Tags: NoTags now called User Tags

  • Configurator: Helpers for adding PI Expression and Alarm Count User Tags

  • HTML Snapshot report and email notification: support for special characters
