Open access to TopView Alarm History with Microsoft SQL Server

TopView 6.5 allows users to optionally store TopView alarm history in Microsoft SQL Server. Whether you use the free version of SQL Server Express or your company's Enterprise SQL Server installation, TopView alarm logging to SQL Server provides a robust and standard storage mechanism for alarm history.

The Alarm History stored in SQL Server can feed TopView's Alarm Reports to provide flexible alarm history queries. Since Microsoft SQL Server supports database standards such as OLEDB and ODBC, a multitude of 3rd party reporting and querying tools can now be used to access TopView's alarm logs.

SQL Server alarm logging (optional)

Custom Notification Recipient Lists

Secondary SMTP Server

New display column: Time of Alarm

SQL Server alarm logging (optional)

TopView performs file-based alarm logging to the local TopView computer. In addition to file-based alarm logging, TopView can now store alarm information to SQL Server. SQL Server alarm logging allows TopView to create more robust and accurate Alarm Reports and allows standard access to TopView alarm history.

Custom Notification Recipient Lists

A Custom Notification List allow the user to create a dynamic list of recipients for a specific notification. The list is not predefined, but is configured when the user assign the notification "receiver" (into alarm or return to normal). The list can include one or more Notification Groups and/or Contacts. Custom Notification Lists are beneficial when
1. the recipient list is unique for a specific alarm
2. the recipient list is composed of multiple pre-defined Notification Groups
3. the user does not want to pre-define Notification Groups, but would like to select the recipients for each alarm notification

Secondary SMTP Server

Each TopView configuration can now specify two SMTP Servers: primary and secondary. By default, email messages will be sent through the primary (default) SMTP Server. For an individual recipient, you can instruct TopView to use the secondary SMTP server. The secondary SMTP Server may be required when sending email to specific domains.

New display column: Time of Alarm

Previous versions of TopView include a column named 'Time in alarm' that displays the duration of an active alarm as hours:minutes:seconds.
The new 'Time of alarm' column will display the date/time that the alarm occurred.
